29th Season Awards Announced

Subscribers, actors and production staff, and Stage West staff celebrated the conclusion of the theatre's 29th season with the annual Awards Party, hosted by the Volunteer Group.  Winners and runners-up this season were:

Best Actor:  Mark Shum for Noises Off
   (Runner-up Jim Covault for Major Barbara)

Best Actress:  Emily Scott Banks for The Clean House 
   (Runner-up Pam Dougherty for The Clean House)

Bookfair Time at Barnes & Noble

Featured Lobby Artist--Mike Winfrey

Our newest lobby display features local artist Mike Winfrey, whose works include black-and-white photographs and two-dimensional sculptural pieces.  Here is his artist statement:

I am a local Fort Worth photographer who specializes in architectural and commercial photography. I graduated from UT Arlington with a degree in Fine Art. In addition to photography, I enjoy creating drawings, illustrations and two-dimensional sculpture.

Stage West picks up DFW Critics Forum Awards

Reading for Winner of 2nd Texas Playwriting Competition announced!

Director of Development Dana Schultes has announced plans for the reading of the winning entry in Stage West's 2nd Annual Texas Playwriting Competiton - Keller resident Don Zolidis for his play A Tiny Miracle with a Fiberoptic Unicorn

The date will be Sunday, December 21, in the Ol' Vic Lounge, and will feature a reception at 6:30, followed by the reading at 7:00.  The playwright will be present for the event, and will do a talk-back afterwards.

Not An Ingenue Returns!

Dan Colcer is Featured Lobby Artist

We're featuring a new artist in the lobby during The Long Christmas Ride Home - Romanian Dan Colcer.  His work is startlingly original, with bold use of color and amazing detail. You can see more at his website, http://dancolcer.ro.  Here are excerpts from his artist statement:

New Art Exhibit by Judy Gelfert

Jardin du Luxembourg

We have a new art exhibit on the east wall of our lobby--some wonderful pieces by Judy Gelfert of Arlington.  Her work is in a loose, impressionistic style, featuring subjects which range from landscapes and urban scenes to interiors and still life.  Inspired mainly by light, she says she aims to capture a particular scene's atmosphere, while showing little actual detail.

Stage West's "The Immigrant" a hit in concert at the Mort!

 On Sunday, August 17, 2008, the Jewish Community Center of  Dallas hosted the 12th Annual Jewish Arts Fest of Dallas at the  Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, in the heart of downtown  Dallas. The Arts Fest, open to the general public, highlighted Jewish culture: music, fine art, crafts and Judaica, children’s activities, and delicious kosher food. It allowed thousands of people to experience the many aspects of Jewish culture,and Stage West was a part of it.
