Some great remarks about Stage West from a fan...
I just found this wonderful entry in the Dallas Morning News Arts Blog, from a guest blogger who has clearly been a Stage West fan (and a Fort Worth fan!) for some time. So great that I just had to share an excerpt, in case you missed it!
Angela Wilson/Guest Blogger ...Still, I live in a perfect arts world because of the additional blessing of Fort Worth and its arts community. So I would like to say a few words about our beautiful neighbor, Fort Worth.
I was at Bass Performance Hall last night- good prices-small enough that every seat is a good seat- but big enough to present a good sized show (and last night's "Little Shop of HORRORS" was terrific), free parking--close by, lots of restaurants--close by. Feel safe walking around there at night because there are soooooooooooooo many people. Love the Barnes and Noble after the show, across the street from the Bass... Stage West is across town from there, but not all that far, and I can't imagine our arts world without Stage West-some of the best shows I've seen in the metroplex have been there.
Even when Stage West was saving money and did a show in their little cafe in their old space- the show was right up there with one of the best shows I've ever seen. (It was called "Lobby Hero"- Justin Flowers played the hero........wonderful, wonderful, wonderful).
The best locally produced show I have EVER seen in the metroplex was at Stage West......their "Our Town" some ten years ago was so earth-shattering for me and my family that we were speechless for the entire drive back to Dallas. A play that is well over 60 years old and overdone, overproduced, under or overacted most of the time, "Our Town" at Stage West had a power over me and my daughter that remains unsurpassed. (Dwight Sandell's performance in "Our Town" ........wowowow- unforgettable for me, among other performances I could gush about.)
It's always been good being a theater lover and artist in Dallas, and promising to get even better, but for me - I'll always believe that Fort Worth theater really makes living in Dallas special.
