9 nights to go...

I'm 90% memorized...  that 90% is 50% shakey but I am 100% sure that I'll have the other 10% down soon.  I memorize in 3 main ways:

1. Repetition at rehearsal.  Even at auditions.  The more I run a scene, the better I know it.

2. Running lines with people.  Whether it's back in the green room with a fellow actor or at home with Justin, it always helps me to just speak the lines with someone.  At home, justin will circle portions of the script that I am consistently getting wrong.   That way, he let's me get through the scene (unless I'm really lost...) so that I can work through the entire thing before going back and fixing trouble areas.

3. Writing it out.  All of it.  I like to write every line out on paper.  This is especially true of monologues.  When I am through, I go back and check my accuracy.  If I've got more than 3 misses, I'll do it again.

Love the percentages.

Love the percentages. :)

It's always neat to see how someone else memorizes - I'm mainly a visual memorizer and use audio to help.

When I'm actually on stage, searching for my next line - I often find myself actually seeing the page that I memorized it from in my mind's eye - and "finding" the line on the page.

While I'm memorizing, I like to use a recorded version of the script to reinforce my ability to pull the words out of the air.  It's also nice when you have to drive, and find you have limited time for memorizing.

re: seeing the page that you

re: seeing the page that you memorized -- I do the same thing.  It throws me off terribly on the rare occasion that the script version changes during a rehearsal and everything is in a new place.

I tried to record some scenes from this play.  It's helped to have something to listen to while strolling the baby around the park.
