Derek C. Whitener

Derek is a costume designer and director in the DFW theatre community, and served as Costume Designer for Stage West’s The Nether and Co-Costume Designer for Mr. Burns, a post-electric play.  He most recently directed Billy Elliot for The Firehouse Theatre, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at ONSTAGE and Spring Awakening at the Runway Theatre in Grapevine, where he also directed the award-winning Cabaret. In DFW Derek has performed and/or designed such shows as: The Nosemaker’s Apprentice at Amphibian, The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical for WaterTower, Xanadu, Spamalot, and productions of James and the Giant Peach and If you Give a Pig a Party at Dallas Children’s Theatre.  Previously Derek worked in Austin, Texas, with the ZACH Theatre as Costume Shop Manager, Costume Designer, and/or actor. He works full time as the Artistic and Education Director for The Firehouse Theatre.
